The Lord Is My Shepherd I shall Not Want

The Lord Is Your Shepherd; You Shall Not Lack

I just want to share with you the good news that I finally got water baptized over the weekend (on 21 March 2015)! For those of you who have challenges getting my Chinese name (“Shun Jian”) right, you can now address me by my Christian name, David (meaning: “Beloved”).

Water Baptism

Today I'm going to bless you with some powerful revelations on one of the most famous verses in the bible – Psalm 23:1. I trust that this will help you with your bible study and teach you how to feed on God's Word even more effectively.

Psalm 23:1

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Many times, when we read the bible, we don't take enough time to chew on God's Word. It's a reflection of the times we live in… where we just gobble up our food without properly chewing them into bite-sized pieces. This makes it harder for us to fully digest what we eat and to soak up all the wonderful nutrients our body needs.

If you feed on Psalm 23:1 slowly, you will realize that there are so many golden nuggets of blessings waiting to be uncovered…

Who is your shepherd?

It's none other than The Lord himself… The LORD who is the everlasting God, the creator of the whole earth (Isaiah 40:28). When you know whose sheep you belong to, you will not fear the enemy because at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth! (Philippians 2:10)

When is He your shepherd?

Now and continuously forevermore… notice the tense that's being used… IS. The verse doesn't say… “The Lord was…”, It says “The Lord IS…” No matter what season you are in now, The Lord IS your shepherd. He will never leave you nor forsake you… (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5)

Whose shepherd is He?

He is YOUR shepherd. Look at how personal our Lord is… Today although there are over 2 billion Christians in the world, God is still ultimately interested in building a personal relationship with you and me. He calls you by name and you are His (Isaiah 43:1). You are not just a faceless name in the crowd. You are His beloved sheep!

Who is He?

He is your SHEPHERD. He is your provider. He is your protector. He will take good care of you… so why, oh why, would you ever want to continue to worry or fear about the future?

What is the consequence of The Lord being your shepherd?

You shall not want (which means you shall not lack). When you have The Lord in your life, you shall have life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). So don't worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs (Matthew 6:31-32)

Praise The Lord for He is good and His mercy endures forever…
