Have you ever had this thought run through your head…
“Did God forget me?”
Well, I want you to know that you're not alone. Many times, when we are going through what we would consider trials and tribulations, we wonder where God is.
David summed this up perfectly in Psalm 13…
Psalm 13
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
‘How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.'
Now, we do not know exactly what David was going through here but suffice to say, it must have been an extremely difficult time for him.
If you're also going through some challenges in your life now, take heart because we have the benefit of hindsight to know that God raised David up mightily (despite his weaknesses, worries and all) to become one of the greatest kings of all time. In fact, Jesus was affectionately referred to seventeen times in the new testament as “Son of David”. Oh, how the Lord exalted David!
What I believe God wants us to learn from Psalm 13 is what David did in the midst of his storms…
David turned from his anxieties, worries and problems to focusing on the Lord as his personal Savior. He started praying to, worshipping and praising the Lord in spite of the situation he was in.
That's what God wants us to do…
You see, often, we are so caught up in our problems that we fail to sense His presence… We fail to realize that He is always there with us!
Deuteronomy 31:8
‘The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”‘
When God brought His people out of Egypt, He went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud by day to guide them on their way and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night (Exodus 13:21).
When they complained of hunger, He rained manna every day to supply them with food (Exodus 16; Psalm 78:24) and when they complained of thirst, He made water come out from the rock for them to drink (Exodus 17)
Beloved, are you focused today on how blessed you are that you're alive, that you're breathing, that you're reading this email?
Are you focused on The Lord's supply (that you might have already taken for granted) or are you focused on “Why haven't my prayers come true yet, Lord?“
As we turn from our “mountains” (challenges) and focus on our “rock” (Jesus), we allow His love and His grace and His blessings to flood our lives…
I just want to reassure you today that God has not forgotten about you.
God loves you and even though you might not be aware of it, He is working in the background to turn your situation around…
Like David, you have a glorious future in Christ!
